P5/6 Assembly

Zoo Debate

Last Friday P5/6 had an assembly. The assembly was about animals. We looked at Endangered Species, such as Snow Leopards, Tigers, Polar Bears, Turtles and Rhinos. We gave some advice on how we could help these animals.

We had a discussion on whether Zoos are good or bad. Some of us thought they were a good thing, some thought they weren’t.

We also had animal ‘Who am I?’ quizzes and a play. The play was called The Great Escape and was about animals trying to escape from a zoo.

As usual, our head teacher gave out awards and certficates for the Curriculum for Excellence. Our class received another rocket award for all our hard work!

Congratulations P5/6 - your Assembly sounds very interesting and lots of fun to keep everyone listening and learning :)

How did you have the discussion? Was it like a debate between people in your class or did you take questions from the audience?

We would be interested in knowing because our SRC is learning how to lead assemblies and we are looking for new, exciting and interesting ways to do this.
    Thanks for your help!

We wrote a great reply to this, but the network went down before we posted it!

We had a discussion before doing anything and different people chose to research either the positives or negatives of zoos. We then selected some key points to put across to the audience and went backwards and forwards between the positives and negatives, asking the audience what they thought at the end.

The quizzes involved the audience which kept them alert and interested.

The assembly was split into lots of small sections so it was fast moving and changed lots, keeping everyone interested.

We had a big discussion and planning time before we did anything else - when everyone gave some ideas and we decided together how best to take it forward.
